Bandwidth Market announced a reduction, by more than half, in the price of the STM1 circuit from New York to London. The price declined from over $6,000,000 to $3.0 Million for a twenty-year Indefeasible Right to Use such a circuit. Operation and maintenance costs are $19,000 per month.

"STM1 circuits can carry over 2,016 voice conversations at once. Of course, it also carries data. This price means you could have one circuit from New York to London for less than $75 per year or less than 25 cents per day," explained Howard Holme, president of the Denver-based Internet telecom trading company. . This is a huge price cut," Holme continued, " AC-1, a very high capacity submarine fiber-optic cable is coming into service. October 2000 is the scheduled date for additional, Terabit (trillion bit), service to Europe. Companies are reducing prices as the supply increases . . . Bandwidth Market is the Internet bandwidth broker with the largest number of circuits listed, including over 12,000 in North America."

The reduced price of the STM1 circuit is expected to continue the reduction in long distance and European Internet Service prices. The price of wholesale long distance switched minutes from New York to London have decreased to the 2 to 4 cent per minute range, similar to US interstate rates, and lower than US intrastate rates. Holme said, "Bandwidth Market helps market many of the highest capacity voice, data, and Internet circuits at very competitive prices. We want to be the best and least expensive place for buyers and sellers of bandwidth to do business. Our web site, Bandwidth Market.com, lists both offers to sell, and bids to buy telecom capacity."
